Who are You? An Inquiry Through Art with Therese Knowles

Sunday, March 3rd & 10th

At The Red Shoes

Some years ago, I was introduced to an up-and-coming Brooklyn artist, Shantell Martin. She said, “On the back of my bedroom door, I used to have multiples of the words WHO ARE YOU. I would see these shortly after waking up every morning. They made me think about what I wanted to achieve that day and what kind of person I am and wished to be. They made me ask myself, “Am I being ME?!”

As for myself, I work on daily mix media compositions asking the same question as Shantell Martin.

In this workshop, I will share various techniques to help you create small compositions answering the question Who are YOU?

Part 1 – Create:  Investigate and experiment with several different mediums, including watercolor and collage, rotating briefly through centers, building a visual vocabulary of expression. Guidance and prompts in working with each medium will assist you through the process of discovery.

Part 2 – Who Are You? Choose from the previously experienced techniques to give visual life and clarity to answer this question for yourself, Who Am I? – in this moment. Following our creative experience, the two art pieces (week 1 & week 2) will be exhibited while we enjoy refreshments and discussion.

Facilitated by Therese Knowles, gifted local artist and teacher, who intertwines her art and philosophy.

Book Study: On The Brink of Everything

Tuesdays Weekly

10:30 -12 pm

“My life has been graced, but it certainly hasn’t been graceful – I’ve done more than my share of falling down, getting up, and falling down again.”

Join us to explore the road ahead through a study of, On the Brink of Everything, Parker Palmer’s book that focuses on the reflective exploration of aging, spirituality, and the meaningful dimensions of life. With wit and wisdom, Parker Palmer helps us reframe aging as a passage of discovery and engagement, not decline and inaction.

This beautiful blend of stories, poetry, and contemplative wisdom encourages us to reconsider our perspective on aging. Palmer, drawing from his personal experiences and wisdom, delves into the richness that comes with growing older. This book embarks on the universal journey of finding meaning and connection at every stage of life.

Facilitated by Kerri D’Amico and Debbie Morrill, both graduates of the Religious Studies Institute and sister pilgrims in awe that we are all here now together on this journey to learn and grow from our experiences and one another.
