About the event
In honor of the many ways we hold, remember, grieve, and celebrate mothering, Held by Clay is a deeply grounding, hands-on workshop that invites participants into reflection through the tactile and healing practice of working with clay.
Guided by multidisciplinary artist and ceramicist Nickeyia Johnson, this experience centers clay as both a creative medium and a vessel for emotion, memory, and intention. Using hand-processed clay sourced from Louisiana land, participants will be gently guided into a space of presence, where the body softens and unspoken truths may begin to surface.
Together, we will begin with breath and a short reflective writing prompt to connect with the themes of motherhood, whether connected to living mothers, ancestral lineage, personal identity, or the complexity of this day. Participants will then shape their reflections into form, choosing to create either a hand-built planter or cup. Each piece will be inscribed with words, affirmations, or messages…
