Dorcas Brandon is a Baton Rouge native, who loves and lives in the local art community. In 2024, she was selected in two juried exhibitions – “Protective Styles: Narratives on Black Hair within Contemporary Art” shown at the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge’s Cary Saurage Community Arts Center and “Wild” shown at LSU School or Art’s Glassell Gallery.
Dorcas spent 16 years as an educator, Mentor Teacher, and Dean of Students and took a leap into helping the community with The Red Shoes. Since then, she has integrated a variety of new programs to the organization, successfully led the “Fill the Fridge July” campaign where all 31 days of July were pledged by local businesses, organizations, and individuals to stock the Community Fridge.
Dorcas was recently a finalist for the Dorothy A. Stepteau Polaris Award for her work in uplifting the community through diversity and unity. She has served with Power Coalition’s Art Framework, the events committee of Mid-City Merchants, and the board of Risen Queen Foundation. Dorcas also uses her creativity as a content creator. She’s been commissioned for content for organizations such as Baton Rouge Gallery and Ellemnop. She also loves fitness, food, coffee shops, and her dog, Toffee. She considers herself a “local enthusiast” who seeks to support local businesses.
