About the event

Louisiana Wild Society invites you into the rich and complex world of one of the region’s most remarkable ecosystems, the longleaf pine savanna. In this engaging talk, postdoctoral researcher and plant community ecologist Anita Simha (they/them) will explore the deep ecological relationships that shape this landscape, from the evolution of native plant communities to the intricate systems that sustain them.

Drawing on their current research at LSU, Anita will also reflect on the social and historical contexts that intersect with these ecosystems, offering a more holistic understanding of how land, people, and biodiversity are intertwined. Together, we’ll examine the dynamic connections between native plants, animals, and insects, and consider why these relationships are not only ecologically vital but also deeply meaningful.

Grounded in both scientific insight and a genuine passion for this work, this talk offers an accessible and thought-provoking look at the longleaf pine savanna, and why its preservation…
