Book Study: Care of The Soul
Mondays Weekly
Beginning August 1
noon -1:30 pm
Hybrid
Are you ready to look more deeply into your life and sense the sacred in ordinary things? Join as we begin exploring a remarkable book, Care of the Soul: A Guide for Cultivating Depth and Sacredness in Everyday Life by psychotherapist, former monk and author Thomas Moore. In it, Moore uses archetypal psychology and mythology to examine the connections between spirituality and the issues facing individuals and society. While the message of this book regarding caring for yourself and your soul is straightforward, its implications might surprise you: you are a unique, complex individual and all aspects of that complexity must be allowed, even embraced, if you are to engage life with satisfying depth.

Mondays Weekly
Beginning August 1
6:00 -7:15 pm

Join us in a study of Active Hope, a book by Joanna Macy and Christ Johnstone, to learn how to strengthen our capacity to face planetary crises and respond with unexpected resilience and creative power. Drawing on decades of teaching an empowerment approach known as the Work that Reconnects, the authors guide us through a transformational process informed by mythic journeys, modern psychology, spirituality, and holistic science. This process equips us with tools to face the mess we’re in and play our role in the collective transition, or Great Turning, to a life-sustaining society.

Wabi-Sabi Bowls: A Celebration of Imperfection
Saturday, August 13
10:30-12 noon
At The Red Shoes
Experience the feel of your fingers turning a wet clump of clay into a unique bowl. Local artist, Therese Knowles, will guide the process and share the secrets of the potter’s wheel. Embrace the Japanese tradition and create your own bowl of imperfections.
Facilitated by Therese Knowles, gifted local artist and teacher, who intertwines her art and philosophy.
"I was trying desperately (and failing) to create perfect bowls and I was becoming frustrated with the process. After reading the book, Everyday Sacred: A Woman's Journey Home by Sue Bender, I realized that nothing is perfect. No matter how hard I tried I would never create perfect bowls. I became interested in the concept of the begging bowl, which is celebrated for both its beauty and its flaws. Traveling to Nepal and Thailand, I gained a deeper understanding of the begging bowl and its importance as a metaphor for life. I realized that everyone needs their own special bowl— a bowl that they created that no one else can, because it comes from the heart and soul. A bowl to remind them to celebrate the imperfections of self and of life as well as the beauty.”
