Meinrad Craighead: Praying with Images-Film

This intriguing documentary opens a window to the art of Meinrad Craighead and her mystical encounters with the Divine Feminine. Her vision and art have kindled the spiritual lives of many women. The connections of Catholicism, mythology, and Native American shamanism are linked to Meinrad’s ideas about God and her art. Among the many images captured in this documentary are works from her pilgrimage to the Black Madonna in Spain. Ava Haymon’s insights as a long time friend will highlight a discussion following the film. More info about the artist and the documentary here.

Facilitated by Ava Haymon who has been mentored by Craighead for almost 30 years and with whom she visits once a year, “my own life and work would not be the same without her” and Jan Bennett and Patricia Meek, who have recently discovered Craighead.

Essence of Yoga - Workshop

Our yoga workshop will focus on refining each pose by working with hands-on adjustments while activating the body and quieting the mind. Come to a fuller understanding of your current yoga practice or learn how starting a yoga practice can enhance your well being. The workshop will include slow deliberate movement, meditation, discussion and a break with fruit and tea. All levels welcome.

Art & Architecture Pilgrimage

The architecture of a house of worship offers incites into the basic tenants of the religion. A sense of the sacred is conveyed by the structure, seating and symbols.  Join us on a pilgrimage in Baton Rouge, as we visit and learn about religious art and architecture from the spiritual leaders at a Buddhist Temple, an Islamic Mosque, a Christian Church and a Jewish Synagogue.  Details and a map will be available on registration.

The Inner Journey of Renewal: A Labyrinth Day-Retreat

As a mirror reflects our countenance, the contemplative walk on a labyrinth can reveal our soul. In the spring, our religious traditions invite us to experience spiritual
renewal. What is your soul longing for? The labyrinth, as it’s winding path is walked, offers the gift of reflection and taps into one’s inner wisdom offering a sacred path to rebirth and peace.  This transformational day-retreat will include labyrinth walking, art as prayer, meditation and reflection. Please bring a notebook or journal, a personal item for our altar, socks and lunch.

Facilitated by Aimée Dominique, LCSW, certified spiritual director and labyrinth facilitator working with this sacred tool in workshops and retreats for over 10 years. She has facilitated with Rev. Lauren Artress in Chartres, France.

Spring Film Study Series: The King of Masks

This film is magical in its ability to transport you  to 1930's China and make you feel the joy, heartache, and redemption of the human spirit. At the end of his life, a famous street performer known as The King of Masks seeks to pass on his craft. However, tradition dictates that he can only teach his art to a male heir.  Desperate to transmit the skill, the heirless old man purchases a destitute child on the black market. Torn by sexist customs and love, the face-mask maker must rethink his beliefs. Facilitated discussion following the film.
