If you have attended any class or program at The Red Shoes and want to spend more time with our community of seekers, join us for an intimate Tuesday afternoon chat. Share your thoughts, your successes and your challenges with an interested, caring and supportive circle that encourages personal and spiritual growth. Tuesday may become your favorite day of the week!

Knitting Circle
Tuesdays     7-8pm
Join our new knitting circle and combine craft with contemplation to awaken the creativity within.  New knitters will learn the basics and experienced knitters may bring works in progress and brush up on existing skills.  All needle crafts are welcome.

Evening Meditation
Wednesdays     5-6:30pm
Create a sacred time and space for yourself each Wednesday evening. Join us for an unparalled time of spiritual renewal.  Silent meditation is enriched by readings and listening to a variety of spiritual leaders.  As a  community of seekers we strive, through reflection and meditation, to access present moment awareness.

Once Upon A Time Story Circle  

Wednesday     July 1     10:30-11:15am

Story circle is a special time for parents, grandparents, caregivers and children to come together to have fun with stories, music, make believe, and crafts. Carefully chosen stories and activities offer the opportunity for children to connect with their inner spirit and interact with other children and adults in a playful, non-threatening atmosphere. Come join the fun!


Facilitated by Amy Alexander who is a mother, writer and artist.

When the Soul Awakens - Book Study

When the Soul Awakens was written for seekers and reveals the spiritual potential within each of us and within the world. It holds the vision of a gathering wave of awakening souls with the collective power to manifest a higher reality on Earth. This book sends a message of joy and hope to the soul and will inspire those new to the spiritual path, as well as longtime students.

Art from the Inside Out 

Thursdays             July 9 & 16          6-7pm

Creating art helps us travel to deeper parts of our inner selves than we have previously known.  This class will allow you to access the gifts of your imagination and creativity and open the door to a new means of self-discovery.  Drawing with oil color pastels will give shape and form to your inner spirit.  We will use music, visualizations exercises and body centered awareness to call forth the artist from within.  No artistic experience required.

 

Facilitated by Suzanne Cotton who has a BA in Education and  participates in the New Roads, LA artist-in–the-schools program.

Eating for Health II: Cardiac Disease and Cholesterol    

Saturday                July 11                  12-3pm

Are you or someone you love concerned about cardiac disease?  Dr. Francine Morrison teaches how to cook and what to eat to control  cholesterol.  Chef Celeste will cook a meal that contains ingredients that offer particular healing properties.  Darrell Martin will join us to discuss herbs grown locally that can assist in maintaining cardiac health.  Are you looking for a way to improve your health without taking more medication?  Cooking with the correct herbs and spices can actually help your body work more efficiently and reduce certain health problems. Join us for our series, Eating for Health and learn how to season your way to better health. Experts on herbs, spices and nutrition and an award winning chef will offer insights and instruction. Each session will feature Chef Celeste’s cooking demonstration in our own Red Shoes Kitchen creating a meal that contains ingredients that offer particular healing properties. Receive medically grounded information, suggestions for what to add to your pantry, recipes and a delicious lunch.  

 

Facilitated by Dr. Francine Morrison, a psychiatrist with Capital Area Human Services, an herbal simplest, who is pursuing a degree in Natural Health and Chef Celeste Gill, winner of the first Baton Rouge Iron Chef contest with Special Guest: Darrell Martin, master herbalist & specialist in historical uses of native medicinal plants.

The Art of Belly Dancing 

Sundays                 July 12- August 2      2-3pm

There is no size, shape or gender requirement - anyone can belly dance!  Each person brings a bit of themselves to the dance, allowing us each to dance in a unique way and celebrate our own gifts and abilities.  Belly dancing is a great form of low impact exercise, toning every muscle group and improving coordination, posture and flexibility.  Join this fun class and learn the basic moves and rhythms of belly dance.

 

Instructed by Omaya Jazairli, born in Damascus, Syria.  She has taught belly dance for 12 years.

Exceptional Birthing

Monday     July 13     6-7pm
Across all cultures women have looked to other women for information and encouragement during pregnancy and birth.  Exceptional Birthing, facilitated by Birth Help doulas (Greek meaning woman’s servant), offers a place where women share and explore philosophies and techniques supporting natural childbirth. We discuss physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of birthing along with resources for achieving birth goals. Women who have had or attempted natural childbirth as well as pregnant women interested in childbirth and nursing babies are welcome.

Are you overwhelmed or frustrated with all of the information out there about how to live green?  Learn easy, cost-effective ways to live a simple, green life by getting back to the basics. Understand the meaning of sustainability and how to integrate it into your everyday life.

 

Facilitated by Amy Strother, co-owner of Noelie Harmon, a store dedicated to the idea that rules should not be broken, people should not be mistreated and the earth should go unharmed in the making of all things for our home and our bodies.

Summer Splash - Cangelosi Dance Project  

Saturday                July 18       6-7pm

The Cangelosi Dance Project perform Summer Splash, an hour of repertory from their contemporary and classical works featuring local dancers performing:  "Louisiana," the spirit and zest of southern folks, "Sister Cry," competing sisters who strive to unite with one another and Jazz works "Bustin the Move" and "Bleeding Love'.  Guest choreographer TerranceHenderson from Columbia, SC, presents Gospel work, "In the Morning" and guest Choreographer SusanQuinn-Williams from University of Arizona presents "Particle Ballet."

 

The Cangelosi Dance Project is a non-profit, progressive, contemporary dance company directed by Kris Cangelosi.

Help plan and host a Hawaiian Luau Party that will touch the hearts of the women and children living in the shelter.   Our party will be complete with games, crafts and treats. Reiki Class—Level II  - POSTPONED due to illness

Reiki is a natural healing system that relieves pain and  boosts the immune system. In this Reiki Level II training, learn the ancient symbols for distance and emotional healing.  Receive Level II "attunement" and learn the names of the symbols to use for healing people, places and situations. This training will help you channel energy, harmonizing body, mind and spirit.

A Cary Grant classic, playing alongside the feisty and fast-talking Rosalind Russell as Hildy Johnson, newspaper reporter. Grant plays Walter Burns, about to lose his wife Hildy to another man, and determined not to give her up without a fight. Regarded as one of the greatest movies ever made, and still much imitated, His Girl Friday has to be seen for its frantically fast-paced and witty dialogue, and iconic performances from Grant and Russell.
